She is the editorial board member of multiple journals. She served as the President of the Chinese American Pathologists Association (2021-2022), the President of the Digital Pathology Association (2019), and the President of Medical Staff at Moffitt (2018-2020). She has chaired multiple committees of the CAP and currently chairs the Digital and Computational Pathology Committee. Dr. Bui has earned several national awards including the 2019 CAP Distinguished Patient Care Award.

PATHOLOGY FACULTY

Michael Feldman, MD, PhD

Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania

Dr. Feldman’s professional interests revolve around the development, integration, and adoption of information technologies in the discipline of Pathology. One of his main areas of interest within this broad discipline is in the field of digital imaging. Alongside his team, he has been studying pathology imaging on several fronts including interactions between pathology/radiology (radiopathogenomics of prostate cancer and breast carcinoma), development and utilization of computer assisted diagnostic algorithms for machine vision in prostate and breast cancer. More recently they have been developing deep learning methods for complex interrogation of pathology slides both within the cancer domain as well as in cardiovascular and renal pathology. They have also been developing methods to apply multispectral imaging for the analysis of multiplexed immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence to tissues along with the development of a quantitative system for scoring and analyzing these studies at a cytometric level on surgical pathology slides. The efforts have been recognized by the national funding agencies of the NIH and DOD as well as industry sponsored projects.

PATHOLOGY FACULTY

He has held faculty positions at Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, and the University of Rochester Medical Center. His current research interests focus on the molecular genetic profiling of clinical samples from patients with cancer. Much of his recent work has involved a search for new molecular genetic markers to help better understand the prognosis and guide therapeutic management of breast cancer.

He has developed expertise in breast pathology through training along with extensive research projects in the field. Although his research focus is breast related diseases, he doesn’t have a specific area of interest, and his research has been conducted to answer clinical questions faced during regular sign out. An area pertinent to his role includes issues related to HER2 testing and evaluation, including but not limited to pre-analytical effects of delay to formalin fixation (cold ischemic time); molecular analysis of HER2 gene; maximizing concordance between IHC and FISH; the role of tumor infiltrating lymphocytes in the clinical outcome; and the epidemiology of various types of breast cancers including racial disparity.
